The I-79 Development Council is a regional economic development marketing organization in north central West Virginia focusing on business attraction and growth. The Council was formed in 2002 when the I-79 Strategic Planning Group, formed in 1992, merged with the Mountaineer Development Council a regional economic development organization. The I-79 Development Council is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation of members from businesses including banking, higher education, hospitals, legal, high technology, economic development authorities, chambers of commerce, media, and many other business groups. These members are located along the area generally recognized as the I-79 Interstate Corridor, including Monongalia, Marion, Harrison, and Lewis Counties in North Central West Virginia.
